What We Collect

We collect the following types of information to provide and improve the Spicemap experience:

• Location data — Only when you actively drop a pin. We never track your location in the background.
• Email address — Used for account creation, login, and important communications.
• Username and profile info — Your display name, avatar, and bio that you choose to share.
• Usage data — Anonymous analytics to understand how the app is used and where we can improve.

How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect to:

• Display your pins on the map for you and your friends.
• Enable social features such as friend connections, leagues, and reactions.
• Send you relevant notifications (which you can disable at any time).
• Improve the app experience through anonymized usage analytics.
• Provide customer support and respond to your requests.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties. Your location data is only shared with friends you explicitly add on the platform. Aggregated, anonymized data may be used for analytics purposes, but this data cannot be traced back to any individual user.

Data Storage

All data is stored securely on Supabase (PostgreSQL) with industry-standard security practices. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256 encryption. Our servers are hosted in secure data centers with strict access controls.

Your Rights

You have full control over your data:

• Access — View all data we have about you at any time in the app.
• Export — Export your data from Settings at any time.
• Delete — Delete your data or your entire account from Settings. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.
• Correction — Update your profile information at any time.

Permissions We Request

Spicemap requests the following device permissions, each tied to a specific feature:

• Location (fine & coarse) — to drop a pin at your current location.
• Camera — to take a profile picture directly from the app (optional).
• Microphone — reserved for future voice-note features; not actively used.
• Notifications — to notify you of friend activity and reminders. You can disable this at any time in settings.

Children's Privacy

Spicemap is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by email before they take effect.
